The development of each of the sets of accreditation standards includes not only a thorough review of current standards by the JRCERT Board of Directors but also the input of relevant communities of interest. By policy, the standards are comprehensively reviewed at least every five years. During this cycle, the Directors identify concepts that merit specific review and discussion and develop appropriate survey instruments to solicit feedback. The results of surveys, input received during professional meetings across the country, and input from a variety of other sources are considered as the standards are reviewed and potentially revised. As the Directors consider all of the input and attempt to reconcile differing opinions, draft documents are developed and distributed for comment.
The Standards Committee, a standing committee of the Board of Directors, monitors all of the accreditation standards. All comments about the standards received during professional meetings or through correspondence from individuals are forwarded to the Standards Committee for consideration. The Standards Committee then makes notes for the next revision cycle or, if the comments warrant, make recommendations to the full Board regarding the provision of guidance to programs or official Standards Interpretations. These Standards Interpretations are designed to assist program officials in understanding the specific intent and/or operational considerations for a particular standard.
Specific timetables for review of standards are developed fairly soon after new standards are initiated. These timetables are available here for review.
To assure that all of the accreditation standards reflect the views of all members of the relevant professional community, input is always encouraged and welcomed. Comments can be directed to the JRCERT at any time.
